Cartons most prosperous venture from 1901- 1956 was in fact the rabbit business. Farmers throughout Ireland would snare rabbits and send them to Halston Street by railway. In 1956 however the myxomatosis virus hit Ireland from Australia and the Cartons rabbit business disappeared overnight!
